5 Tips For Perfect Doodle Grooming

Want to get the best Doodle grooms possible? This blog will tell you how!

We all know that Doodle dogs are big news, but did you know that according to a recent Groomers survey, they account for about half of the dogs we groom? Doodle coats are among the most difficult to keep, and so the owners often rely on groomers to help them, making grooming Doodles big business!

1. If you need to get knots out, condition!

Moisturising a curly coat with an excellent conditioning shampoo like Choca-Doodle 2 in 1, and then finishing with a conditioning spray like Choca-Doodle Comb Thru will make hair more slippery. This helps to ease out knots of shed hair and matted areas, hopefully also helping you to save some of that lovely coat!

2.  When scissoring, preparation is the key.

If you have a beautifully knot-free coat, then you’ll want to make sure it’s easy for you to scissor. A degreasing shampoo that strips back the oils of the hair and allows it to stand away from the skin, like Choca-Doodle Stand Proud, can help. Shampoos like this make the coat crisp, ensuring hair stays fluffed to allow for easier scissoring.

3. Choose the right tools.

If you want a perfectly fluffed Doodle coat, choose a good slicker and a comb that allows you to get right into the thick, curly hair. For this, you’ll want a comb with long, wide-spaced pins like the Hard Rubber Detangle Comb.

4. Curl power.

Some customers really like to have their Doodle coats curly after grooming. Spritz on Choca-Doodle Curl Create while the coat is still wet to help the coat get curly if it isn’t being scissored. After scissoring, use a little bit of water with Curl Create and scrunch to help the coat curl again.
