Choosing The Right Coat King

Choosing a Coat King can be difficult, but we’re here to help you out!

Here are some general guidelines for selecting a Coat King:

  • Dog breeds with a very soft coat – the more blades the better.
  • Dog breeds with a long coat – the more blades the better.
  • Dog breeds with a very short coat – the more blades the better.
  • Dog breeds with a knotty coat – start with a Coat-King with less blades and finish with one that has more blades.
  • Dog breeds with coarse or wiry hair – use a coarse Coat-King with less blades.

Here are a few examples of which breeds are suitable for which coat king:

Coat King, 8-Blade: Alaskan Malamute, Belgian Tervueren, Bouvier des Flandres, Cairn Terrier, Norwegian Elkhound, Samoyed, St. Bernard, Siberian Husky

Coat King, 10-Blade: Collies, Schnauzers, Shepherds, Terriers, Akita Inu,  Belgian Malinois, Borzoi, Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Chow-Chow, Dachshund, Griffon, Elkhound, and all Sheepdogs.

Coat King, 12-Blade: Australian Cattle Dog, Basenji, Bedlington Terrier,  Belgian Sheepdog, Border Terrier, Briard, Fox Terrier, Golden Retriever, Griffon, Kerry Blue Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Old English Sheepdog, Scottish Terrier, Schnauzer (Standard and Miniature)

Coat King, 16-Blade: Airedale Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, Border Terrier, Curly-Coated Retriever, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Fox Terrier, Golden Retriever, Kerry Blue Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Lhasa Apso, Maltese, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Papillon, Pekingese, Scottish Terrier, Welsh Terrier, West Highland White Terrier

Coat King, 20-Blade: Afghan, American Water Spaniel, Bearded Collie, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Cavalier King Charles, Clumber Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Collie, English Cocker, English Setter, English Springer Spaniel, English Toy Spaniel, Flat-Coated Retriever, Giant Schnauzer, Gordon Setter, Irish Setter, Irish Terrier, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Wolfhound, Kuvasz, Shetland Sheepdog, Skye Terrier, Sussex Spaniel, Springer Spaniel

Please note that some coat kings can be used on various breeds and coat types, and you can choose the coat king that you prefer.
