The Horse of the Year Show 2013

The world’s most famous horse show is set to return to the NEC in Birmingham once again from the 9th – 13th October 2013. The Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) is the culmination of British equestrian events, and features the finals of some of the country’s most prestigious national show jumping championships. Now in its 65th year, and with a total prize fund of £150,500, organisers say this year is set to be the best yet.

Sometimes known as the champion of champions show, HOYS was first held in 1949 in Harringay. The unique indoor event moved to Wembley arena ten years later, and then on to the NEC in 2002, when a large and more complex venue was needed. The event is now renowned as the illustrious end to the competition season, drawing in Britain’s top show jumpers and a host of international competitors.

The five-day competition will offer a variety of exciting classes including speed and jump-off classes, and a full programme of international classes, a number of which carry world ranking points. HOYS will also play host to a variety of exciting showing competitions including Supreme Horse and Supreme Pony of the Year. Other highlights include The Pony Club Mounted Games, the Double Harness Scurry, and an exclusive display with the King’s Troop, Royal Household Artillery, who for the first time in 15 years will perform their Musical Drive and booming gun salute.

Groomers Team Rider Abbie Newbery is set to compete at HOYS 2013 – Groomers wish her the very best of luck!
