International Helmet Awareness Day
Scheduled for this Saturday 22nd June is International Helmet Awareness Day 2013. Building on the success of previous years’ events, International Helmet Awareness Day highlights the importance of on-going safety education for equestrians, with a particular focus on the importance of wearing a secure, well-fitted and certified riding helmet.
Founded in the U.S. in 2010, the event is a direct result of Olympic dressage rider Courtney King-Dyer’s accident that same year. Courtney suffered severe, life-altering head injuries when schooling a young horse, and has been part of the campaign to encourage helmet safety ever since.
This year’s International Helmet Awareness Day has garnered support once again from a host of international riders, including Kitty King and Charlotte Dujardin, along with hundreds of retailers and helmet manufacturers, who will be offering discounts on helmets. There will also be a range of live webinars on the day on a variety of topics, including the implications of an ill-fitting helmet, advances in body protector technology, and head injury prevention tips.
To mark this event, from today through until Sunday Groomers Equestrian will be offering our Professional Riding Hat with 20% OFF. This traditional style riding helmet from Shires conforms to the latest BSEN 1384 standards, and is made from durable and high quality materials. The hat also has a Pittards leather four point harness, complete with rear lace adjustment, and has an exterior made from smooth black velvet, finished with a pretty bow in the back to complete the look.
