London 2012 Equestrian Update – Team GB Win Olympic Silver

Great Britain’s riders have obtained a silver medal in the team eventing competition. The German team, who lead the competition, took gold, and team New Zealand finished with bronze.

The medal was secured by Tina Cook’s jumping round, where she jumped clear with one time fault on Miner’s Frolic. Mary King also jumped clear inside the time on Imperial Cavalier, gaining first place in the jumping qualifiers. Zara Phillips additionally rode well for Team GB and did so with nerve and composure, although she did incur four faults and three time penalties over the four-day event.

This is now Team GB’s forth medal in the games so far, and is the British team’s 18th post-war eventing medal.

Michael Jung won the individual eventing gold, and lead Germany to victory in the team eventing competition. Jung is now the first ever rider to hold individual world, European and Olympic titles simultaneously.
